In the college basketball season 2005-2006, 334 colleges and universities took part in Division 1 Men’s Basketball. All teams are divided for 31 different circuits, ones of them are major and others are middle-major, although this division is not official. Since 1979 no middle- major team came to the final. In 1979 two middle-major teams Penn and Indiana State came to the semi-final, but both were defeated by Michigan State with Magic Johnson.

In the past the NBA didn’t take players who didn’t graduate from the college or university. It was convenient for both schools and the NBA. Schools didn’t lose their best players and that’s why could stay at the high levels among other schools. And players themselves could finish their education without worries. But in several years it became rather difficult to get the higher education from financial point of view and because of commercialization of the sphere of sports. So, the American basketball Association began to accept players without higher education.

The Btuins, basketball team of University of California at Los Angeles is one of the most famous teams in the history of college basketball. They took part in 21 National Championships and in 2006 they met with Florida.
